Latest Trends in FEI

This week’s Financial Officers Forum (FOF) brings together senior finance leaders for a confidential, candid exchange that goes far beyond surface-level trends.

Held quarterly, FOF is shaped by the people in the room. CFOs, Controllers, VPs of Finance, consulting CFOs, and advisers bring forward the client situations, questions, and challenges that are most relevant now—then work through them together in a trusted, Vistage-style setting.

Recent conversations have explored AI in unusually practical detail. You won't discuss simply whether finance teams should use AI, but which software and applications are delivering value, how organizations are implementing them, where risks and limitations are emerging, and what finance leaders are seeing in the field.

What makes FOF different:

  • You help drive the conversation. Topics reflect current client work, real operating issues, and the questions participants want to explore.
  • The discussion goes deep. Expect specific scenarios, real-world applications, technology considerations, and peer-tested perspectives—not high-level talking points.
  • Everything stays confidential. Participants can speak openly, compare experiences, and share practical lessons in a trusted environment.
  • The group spans industries. The common thread is senior finance leadership and advisory experience, creating valuable cross-sector insight.
  • You’ll hear what consulting CFOs are seeing now. Gain a clearer view of emerging client concerns, evolving finance priorities, and the tools reshaping the function.

Whether you are a CFO, Controller, VP of Finance, or adviser to finance leaders, FOF offers a timely opportunity to compare notes with experienced peers, pressure-test ideas, and leave with perspectives you can put to work immediately.

Financial Officers Forum will be held virtually on Friday, July 24th, from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm Pacific.

People, Payroll, and Profitability: What Every Finance Leader Needs to Know Before a Transaction, System Change, or Hyper-Growth Event

Could people-related risks quietly reduce deal value before a transaction closes? Join Stacy Litteral, Partner, HR Consulting, Payroll & HR Technology at BPM, for People, Payroll, and Profitability: What Every Finance Leader Needs to Know Before a Transaction, System Change, or Hyper-Growth.

For finance leaders preparing for a merger, acquisition, system transition, or rapid expansion, payroll and workforce infrastructure can create financial exposure long before it appears in a diligence report. Payroll tax issues, employee classification errors, benefits gaps, and disconnected systems can delay integration, increase costs, and create unexpected liabilities at exactly the wrong time.

Stacy will discuss how CFOs, controllers, and finance executives can spot workforce-related risks early, pressure-test their payroll and HCM systems, and use a practical readiness framework to protect enterprise value before the next major business event.

Register today to learn how proactive workforce readiness can help safeguard profitability, support growth, and prevent costly surprises.

People, Payroll, and Profitability: What Every Finance Leader Needs to Know Before a Transaction, System Change, or Hyper-Growth Event will be held at BPM in San Jose on Tuesday, September 29th, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm Pacific.

October Keynote: How Finance Leaders Can Harness AI Without Losing Control

The AI question for finance leaders is no longer whether to adopt it. It's how to retain control as adoption accelerates. Join Gargi Ray, VP of Finance at Synopsys, for our October Keynote: How Finance Leaders Can Harness AI Without Losing Control.

AI can improve speed, visibility, and decision-making, but only when the business process is clearly owned, the underlying data is governed, and results can be measured against real financial value. Without that discipline, organizations risk adding cost and complexity instead of creating meaningful operational leverage.

Drawing on Gargi's experience leading finance transformation, large-scale operations, and M&A integration, Gargi will share a practical approach to evaluating AI initiatives through the lenses that matter most to finance: ROI, cost, readiness, accountability, and business impact.

Moderated by Jan Robertson, Managing Partner and CFO of SiVal Advisors, this interactive discussion will explore how finance can help shape an AI and data strategy from the ground up. That way, automation supports stronger decisions without compromising governance.

Keynote: How Finance Leaders Can Harness AI Without Losing Control will be held at Pillsbury in Palo Alto on Tuesday, October 20th, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Pacific.

Understanding EBITDA Drivers: Improve Your Forecasting & Business Performance

Oftentimes, finance teams pull the variance report, see that EBITDA missed or beat plan, and use surface-level numbers to explain what happened. But tracing those variances back to their operational drivers is how you get the real “why” behind every hit, miss, or overperformance.

On September 24th, join our Gold Partners at Ramp, as Microsoft Excel MVP and finance educator, Carl Seidman, CPA, shows you how to move beyond surface-level variance reporting to understand what’s actually driving your EBITDA, including:

  • How to distinguish plan-vs-actual and prior plan-vs-actual variances
  • How to trace EBITDA variances back to their underlying operational drivers
  • How to convert variance findings into clear, action-oriented guidance for operations teams and leadership
  • How to build a self-updating variance model in Excel using dynamic techniques

Understanding EBITDA Drivers: Improve Your Forecasting & Business Performance will be held virtually on Thursday, September 24th, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am Pacific.
