Latest Trends in FEI

The Financial Officers Forum (FOF) is a quarterly, confidential peer forum for senior finance professionals seeking substantive discussion, informed perspective, and practical insight. Created for CFOs, Controllers, VPs of Finance, consulting CFOs, and finance advisers, FOF convenes experienced leaders around the issues they are addressing with clients and within their own organizations.

The FOF provides a Vistage-style setting in which members can exchange best practices, firsthand experience, and trusted connections across industries—all on a confidential basis.

Rather than following a fixed presentation agenda, participants help shape each conversation around current business conditions, emerging risks, operational challenges, and strategic opportunities.

Discussions center on the real-world decisions and challenges facing senior finance leaders, including:

  • Practical approaches to complex client, operational, and leadership issues
  • Peer-informed best practices, lessons learned, and emerging market observations
  • Perspectives from consulting CFOs and advisers working directly with companies across sectors
  • Ongoing discussion of AI, with attention to practical finance applications, implementation questions, governance, and measurable business value
  • Confidential relationship-building with senior-level peers who understand the demands of finance leadership

FOF’s quarterly multi-Chapter format extends the value of the conversation beyond one local network. It offers a broader view of the priorities, challenges, and opportunities emerging across companies, industries, and regions. For senior finance professionals, FOF offers a discreet setting to test assumptions, compare approaches, and gain grounded insight from peers navigating similar high-stakes decisions!

Financial Officers Forum (FOF) will be held virtually on Friday, September 25th, from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm Pacific.

Join us for Lunch and a Discussion!

The financial consequences of workforce infrastructure often become visible only when a company is under pressure: during diligence, in the middle of a payroll system conversion, or after growth has pushed the organization into new states, thresholds, and compliance obligations. By then, correcting classification errors, employment-tax gaps, benefit-administration issues, or fragmented employee data can consume leadership attention, delay a transaction, and put enterprise value at risk.

Join us for a practical lunch session built around a central question for finance leaders: Would your people and payroll infrastructure withstand your next major business event? The discussion will help CFOs, controllers, and senior finance executives recognize the early warning signs—from manual workarounds and inconsistent employee records to systems that cannot accommodate a newly acquired workforce or rapidly expanding footprint—before those weaknesses become costly surprises.

Rather than treating payroll and HCM as back-office administration, this session frames them as financial infrastructure. Attendees will learn where exposure most commonly appears in due diligence and growth scenarios, what to pressure-test before committing to a system change, and how to use a 30-day readiness framework to prioritize action. Leave with a clearer view of the risks beneath the P&L—and a practical way to protect profitability, preserve value, and keep growth on schedule.

People, Payroll, and Profitability: What Every Finance Leader Needs to Know Before a Transaction, System Change, or Hyper-Growth Event will be held at BPM in San Jose on Tuesday, September 29th, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm Pacific.

October Keynote: How Finance Leaders Can Harness AI Without Losing Control

AI should accelerate the business, not redefine it. As adoption accelerates, finance leaders can't afford to watch from the sidelines. They must own the process, govern the data, and hold automation accountable for measurable results.

Join us for an expert-led session that delivers a practical, finance-led playbook for implementing AI with discipline, determinism, and control, grounded in real-world lessons from building production-ready AI capabilities. Expect a candid, discussion-driven exploration of why process ownership is the real key to ROI, how to build an AI and data strategy from the bottom up, what responsible adoption looks like under real cost and value scrutiny, and how finance teams can turn these lessons into confident, faster AI adoption.

Attendees will leave with a clear grasp of finance's role in governing AI-enabled processes, a practical approach to building AI and data strategy from the ground up, and a sharper lens for evaluating ROI, cost, and adoption readiness.

Keynote: How Finance Leaders Can Harness AI Without Losing Control will be held at Pillsbury in Palo Alto on Tuesday, October 20th, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Pacific.

Global Investors are Sounding the Alarm on Debt

Since 2021, RSM's core baseline forecast of the American economy has been framed by what they call the regime change in interest rates.

That is, the era of low inflation and interest rates, best defined by insufficient aggregate demand and an abundance of supply, would be replaced by one marked by scarce capital and goods, robust demand, inflation, and rising rates.

In fits and starts over the past five years, that regime change has altered the trajectory for private equity, private credit and other core financial and professional services that depend on medium- to long-term leverage.

For several reasons, that regime change is now the defining feature of the American and global economies as a secondary and long-awaited discussion on just how much debt is sustainable appears to be moving to the center of the global economic discussion.

When does debt become unsustainable? When the global financial markets say it is.

That appears to be happening.

Yields on 30-year notes in the United States and the UK over the summer reached their highest levels in two decades, and Japan’s currency has sunk to crisis levels.
