Latest Trends in FEI

Finance leaders are under increasing pressure to drive efficiency while managing risk and supporting business growth. Yet many organizations still treat all company spending the same, even though different types of spending carry very different levels of risk, complexity, and opportunity.

Join us for a conversation that will focus on real operational lessons from scaling companies across Silicon Valley and the systems and processes finance leaders are putting in place to support smarter growth.

In this discussion, finance leaders will explore why vendor spend has become the most strategic category of spend for modern organizations. Unlike payroll or employee expenses, vendor spend is highly cross-functional, negotiable, and often represents one of the largest controllable cost centers in the business.

Not All Spend Is Equal: Why Vendor Spend Is the CFO’s Biggest Lever for Margin and Risk Control will be held at Zip in San Francisco on Tuesday, May 26th, from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm Pacific.

Audit Fees Hold Firm, Relationships Are Evolving, and Financial Leaders See Room for More

The 2024 audit cycle was, by most measures, operationally stable. Fees held relatively steady. No major regulatory disruptions upended the profession mid-year. What FERF’s 16th Annual Audit Fee Survey and Insights Report captures is both the steadiness of that moment and a profession's growing appetite for greater clarity, communication, and strategic engagement.

The report draws on 95 survey responses from FEI Members across finance, accounting, governance, and audit roles, as well as a new benchmark analysis of FY2024 audit fee disclosures for approximately 470 S&P 500 companies. What emerges is a picture of a profession that is stable yet evolving: fees are substantial and concentrated and tied to underlying complexity, AI is entering the audit workflows in targeted and measured ways, and finance professionals – many in long-standing audit relationships – are increasingly focused on how communication and transparency can unlock more value from those engagements.

AI-Powered Performance Planning: Eliminating Uncertainty in Financial Planning with AI

Traditional forecasts fail because they rely solely on historical financial trends and disconnected data. While drilling into operations for early indicators is expensive and time-consuming, modern business demands real-time adaptation.

AI built from the ground up for financial intelligence—not just bolted on—is the catalyst for this transformation. Join FEI virtually to see how an AI-native platform revolutionizes your financial processes.

Experts will demonstrate how purpose-built AI empowers your team to move from endless email chains to automated, accountable workflows.

This session explores how AI-powered financial planning turns static models into dynamic, weekly re-forecasts, giving you the confidence to drive organizational performance and protect board credibility.

AI-Powered Performance Planning: Eliminating Uncertainty in Financial Planning with AI will be held virtually on Thursday. May 7th, from 8:00 am - 9:00 am Pacific.

How Leading CEOs and CFOs Are Treating Portfolio Reviews as Core Strategy

CEOs and CFOs face many strategic challenges created by today’s volatile business environment. In our view, portfolio reviews are an underused tool that can help executives be more agile and decisive in their response to those challenges. The portfolio review process is no longer just about improvement — it’s about allocating the next dollar efficiently, increasing competitiveness and driving value creation at enterprise scale.

Yet too many organizations still view portfolio reviews as a backward-looking, check-the-box corporate chore. A PwC study, The power of portfolio renewal and the value in divestitures, found that only 39% of companies have a robust, data-driven objective process for portfolio review. That means most companies operate on legacy assumptions, misallocating capital and leadership attention to businesses that may be strategically challenged.
