Come for the BBQ, Stay for the Connections
Our Annual BBQ is one of those special events that truly brings together the entire FEI Silicon Valley network. This year, we’ll gather at Pillsbury’s newly remodeled space, designed to support both small-group conversations and larger connections across the room. reconnecting with peers or meeting someone for the first time.
These interactions are what give the Chapter its unique fingerprint. Ideas are exchanged, perspectives shift, and relationships take shape in ways that carry well beyond the event itself. It’s a reminder that the strength of this community comes from the people in it and the conversations that bring them together.
This Annual BBQ reinforces the value of building authentic relationships with fellow financial executives. A conversation over a plate can lead to a new role through one of our Partners, while an exchange with a fellow Member might influence your next career move. Even an introduction to a guest brought by someone in the Chapter can grow into a lasting friendship of your own. These are the kinds of connections and endless possibilities that define FEI Silicon Valley and make our community truly special.
The Annual FEI Silicon Valley BBQ will be held at Pillsbury in Palo Alto on Tuesday, July 21st, from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm Pacific.

Why B2B Payments Resist Optimization and What Changes When AI Enters the Decision
Every business-to-business payment involves conflicting incentives. The payer wants to hold cash as long as possible, preserving working capital and the value of float. The payee wants the cash as soon as possible for the same reason. Both are trying to do the same thing: optimize their own cash and working capital, from opposite perspectives. When the payment is made, the tension is resolved.
This resolution is rarely reached on merit. It is reached by default — whatever method happens to be on file, executed whenever someone gets to the invoice. The disagreement is real and has real economic content, but the benefit of optimizing on a single invoice is small, and the complexity involved can be significant. So the problem gets settled instead of solved.

Make Your Mark on FEI’s Future
We’re running out of time to hear from you, and your input is critical.
FEI Members are invited to complete the 2026 Member Satisfaction & Needs Assessment Survey, a quick, five-minute opportunity to directly influence the programming, resources, and benefits FEI will prioritize in the year ahead.
Your feedback ensures FEI continues delivering meaningful value to Members and Chapters, but we need more responses before the deadline to make the most impact.
There’s still time to make your voice heard, and a little competition adds to the incentive. The two Chapters with the highest number of completed responses will each receive a complimentary registration to the 2027 Financial Leaders Forum in Minneapolis.
Don’t miss your chance to shape what’s next for FEI, and help your Chapter earn a valuable professional development opportunity.
Deadline to complete is July 3rd: Take the survey now
Where to Find Money in Your Merchant Account
Merchant accounts allow you to perform a vital business function: processing credit and debit card payments. However, the complexity of the industry means almost all merchant accounts are filled with junk fees, errors, and significant wasted spending.
Join FEI for a virtual presentation where experts will walk attendees through the five steps every finance team should take to identify where and how they are overpaying on processing fees. They'll show you how to correct these problems, and we'll work through a "mock statement analysis" together so you can see the practical application.
Where to Find Money in Your Merchant Account will be held virtually on Wednesday, July 22nd, 10:00 am - 11:00 am Pacific.

The Role of Private Equity in Healthcare
An article co-authored by Pillsbury Insolvency & Restructuring partner Andrew Troop and Samuel Maizel, a partner at Dentons, explores the growing role of private equity in the U.S. healthcare industry and the debate surrounding its impact on hospitals, nursing homes, and patient care. While supporters argue the private equity investment can improve operational efficiency and provide much-needed capital, critics contend that leveraged buyouts, real estate sale-leasebacks, and profit-focused strategies can leave healthcare providers financially vulnerable.
Through multiple case studies, the authors examine how private equity ownership has been linked to financial distress, bankruptcies, facility closures, and increased regulatory scrutiny. The article also highlights emerging state and federal efforts to increase oversight of private equity-backed healthcare transactions as policymakers seek to balance investment opportunities with patient and community protections.
