2017 was the most active and harmful year of cyberattacks in history. The average cost for each lost or stolen record containing sensitive and confidential information increased from $221 to $225. The average total cost experienced by organizations over the past year increased from $7.01 million to $7.35 million.

In this session, Eric Long and Jeff Dodds, both Founding Principals at ABD Insurance and Financial Services and Tyler Gerking, Chair of the Insurance Recovery Group and Co-Chair of the Cybersecurity Group at Farella Braun and Martel LLP,will discuss threats of cyber liability, socially engineered crime, share real world experiences and provide best practices to improve your security. From risk analysis and quantification, to preparing an incident response plan, to making sure you have the right coverages place, you will learn to mitigate risks and limit surprises.

Eric is a founding principal of ABD Insurance and Financial Services. Eric specializes in the risk management and strategic oversight for clients’ global insurance programs for his technology and life science clients, including Property & Casualty, E&O/Cyber Liability, and Executive Liability and IPO risks. He gets satisfaction from learning about operations of his clients and implementing risk management and insurance strategies. Risk & Insurance Magazine recognized Eric as a Top Power Broker, and he is regularly invited to participate as a speaker at industry conferences. He earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.

Tyler Gerking represents corporate policyholders in complex, high-stakes insurance matters. He helps clients negotiate favorable policy terms that match their unique risk profiles (particularly for cyber risks), shepherds clients through the claim process and pursues breach of contract and bad faith claims against insurance companies. He is chair of Farella's Insurance Recovery Group and co-chair of its Privacy & Cybersecurity Group

Jeff Dodds

Jeff has over 25 years of experience advising companies about the property & casualty risks they face – with a deep focus on the technology sector. He works with venture backed start-ups to multi-national publicly traded companies. Jeff has specialized in Cyber Risk from the early days of the internet, having co-created one of the first ever internet policies for Excite.com. Prior to co-founding ABD, Jeff spent time at Wells Fargo Insurance Services and Marsh. He holds a BBA in Finance and Risk Management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business.
