Chief Financial Officer


As Chief Financial Officer, Mike McGee oversees all accounting, planning, legal, and IT functions for the Academy, ensuring that the institution’s resources are managed wisely and aligned with its long-term strategic plan and mission.

Before joining the Academy, McGee served as Vice President of Finance and CFO at Discovery Science Foundation, the operating, marketing, and fundraising arm for Discovery Cube—a nonprofit science education institution with campuses in Orange County and Los Angeles. There, he led the Foundation through the construction and launch of its second Discovery Cube museum location in Los Angeles, which opened in November 2014. In 2015, he was named “CFO of the Year” in the “Not-for-Profit” category by the Orange County Business Journal, an award that recognizes the achievements of Orange County’s top CFO’s.

Prior to his work at Discovery Science Foundation, McGee served as Vice President of Finance and CFO for Palace Entertainment, the largest operator of water parks and family entertainment centers in the country. He was also an executive with the Walt Disney Company for 11 years, holding key leadership roles in the Theme Park and Resorts segment including CFO of the Anaheim Ducks Hockey Club.

McGee is a member of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and serves on several for-profit and not-for-profit boards. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting theory and practice from California State University, Northridge and earned his CPA certificate while at Coopers & Lybrand.

Paul Velaski
Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer


Paul Velaski joined SVCF as chief financial officer in August 2014. Paul, who had previously served as CFO at the Arizona Community Foundation since 2007, has broad experience in the nonprofit sector as well as the corporate world. He started his career at Arthur Andersen as a senior accountant in the audit division. He left there to work for First Bank System Inc. as a trust auditor, credit analyst and accounting supervisor.

Paul then transitioned into the charitable sector with the Special Olympics organization, where he spent 11 years in finance, operations, development and marketing. He served as vice president and chief financial officer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, and also as interim president and CEO of organization prior to joining the Arizona Community Foundation.


Wade W. Loo
Retired Partner, KPMG


Wade is a retired KPMG audit partner. During 30 years at KPMG, he worked with companies in the United States and internationally. He is currently the audit committee chair for Kofax Limited, a leading supplier of solutions to help enterprises manage the capture, transformation and exchange of business information.

Prior to retiring from KPMG, Wade served as the senior partner in charge of audit for the Northern California business unit, which consists of the KPMG offices in San Francisco, Sillicon Valley, Sacramento and Honolulu. In addition, Wade led KPMG’s Audit Committee Institute (ACI) in Silicon Valley, which provides corporate governance and best practices support to board members through publications, seminars and share forums. Wade served for eight years in KPMG’s offices in Tokyo, Beijing and Singapore.

Wade is currently chairman of the board of JobTrain, an organization that helps people in need in East Palo Alto and surrounding communities find meaningful jobs. In addition, he is past co-president of Ascend, an organization focused on Pan-Asian leadership development. During his tenure in China, he served as the Treasurer of the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.

Wade is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of CPAs. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Denver.
