Enterprise Risk Management for Non-Profits

A proactive and sustained approach to continuous improvement is essential for not-for-profit organizations to earn the support and trust of the communities they serve. The ability to reduce risks, strengthen internal controls, and optimize service efficiency and effectiveness is critical to success.

  • Using a risk-based approach to improve operational performance and achieve strategic goals

Colleen has over 15 years of experience advising local, state, and tribal governments and not-for-profits to improve operations and efficiency by assessing organizational and program effectiveness, and developing and refining performance and level-of-service measures. She collaborates with clients to understand their goals and objectives; develop policies, processes, and tools; and define organizational and programmatic changes to better equip and position them to achieve their goals and objectives. Her areas of expertise include:

Colleen’s additional government experience includes planning, policy, and financial analysis in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. She managed the Performance Reporting Branch of the Washington State DOT and authored the 2011-2015 WSDOT Strategic Plan.


Ali Chalak, CPA

Ali has practiced public accounting since 2006. He focuses on financial statements and performance audits, and consulting services for not-for-profit and governmental organizations.

Ali is well versed in performing compliance audits of entities that participate in federal programs under the Yellow Book; the OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.

Ali has led training on accounting and auditing topics for Moss Adams professionals as well as clients and industry organizations. Prior to joining Moss Adams, he spent two years working for a large international public accounting firm.
