Suresh Bhat is a senior finance executive with more than two decades of experience in both the for-profit (Fortune 500 companies) and non-profit sectors. He currently is the chief financial officer (CFO) of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Prior to joining the Hewlett Foundation, Mr. Bhat served as the CFO of the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley, where he was a key member of the Haas senior management team and thought partner to the dean and advisory board. Prior to that, he headed business finance for the Institutional Client and BlackRock Solutions businesses at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, overseeing all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
Mr. Bhat has extensive experience in organizational strategy and financial management. He held senior roles at Barclays Global Investors, where he helped lead its sale to BlackRock (which is the still the largest transaction in asset management history), and Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., where he served as division CFO for retail distribution, retirement service and international businesses. He began his career at Deloitte & Touche and served in various finance roles at Bank of America.
Mr. Bhat enjoys supporting nonprofits and is a board member of the following organizations: Public Library of Science (PLOS), an open access publisher of scientific journals; HomeFirst, the largest provider of homeless shelters and services in Silicon Valley; Castro Valley Educational Foundation. Mr Bhat also was recently elected to the board of Foundation Financial Officers Group (FFOG), which supports foundation leaders (CIOs, COOs and CFOs) across the globe.
Mr. Bhat earned both an MBA and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkeley.
