International Liquidity Opportunities in the Current Environment

Being fully informed and taking advantage of every possible tax and liquidity strategy has never been more important.  The RSM International Tax team has been helping clients take advantage of international tax maneuvering in the midst of the current economic crisis. During this Hot Topic Friday, you will hear more about:

RSM will explore these areas of interest by taking a deep dive into opportunities brought into existence by COVID-19 business relief efforts as well as opportunities available prior to the crisis.

Rob Schmidt
Principal, International Tax

Rob Schmidt leads the firm’s International Tax Practice in the Bay Area and brings over 30 years of experience working with US and international clients on all aspects of their international tax needs. Rob began his career in business litigation, transitioning to domestic and international business and tax planning for a national accounting and law firm. Rob’s experience spans multiple industries, and he has worked with entities of all sizes, including multi-billion-dollar services businesses, telecommunication, technology, private equity funds and consumer product start-ups. He also has in-house experience where he helped plan and implement the incorporation and structuring of its associated partnerships in the Western Hemisphere in preparation for a $15 billion public offering. As director and international tax counsel at a prominent Bay Area consumer products company, Rob was also responsible for the international in-house tax strategy and planning.

Rob has spoken before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee regarding Corporate Tax Shelter Abuse, and he has written and presented extensively on topics related to intellectual property in international transactions.

John Hauser
Partner, Tax Services

John has more than 25 years of experience in several industries including software, online and mobile media, entertainment, semiconductor, bio-tech, and consumer retail. John advises middle market public and private companies with a broad array of tax planning, leveraging RSM specialists. He specializes in corporate tax including multi-state and multi-national tax provisions pursuant to ASC 740, corporate tax compliance matters including tax accounting method changes and representation with taxing authorities. Prior to joining RSM, John served as a tax partner at a large accounting firm where he led their technology industry group.
John leads the tax practice in RSM’s Silicon Valley office where there is a focus on serving the technology sector.

Peter Martin
Senior Director, International Tax / M&A Tax

Peter has over 20 years of domestic and international M&A experience working with large and mid-market private equity firms, large multinational corporations and privately held businesses, having completed numerous transactions in that time. His client service focus is in advising clients on domestic and cross-border corporate and partnership merger and acquisition activity, international acquisitions, tax structuring, due diligence, section 382 and consolidated returns. He is sought after across the firm for his extensive technology and software experience; which includes software company acquisitions, semi-conductor company acquisitions, hardware company acquisitions, software outsourcing service companies, and IAAS companies. In addition, he has extensive experience in sub C, sub S, and international tax.
Peter has worked closely with a large number of private equity groups and corporate companies.
