Data Analytics & Visualization – Secrets of Presenting your Financial / Other Data to Wow your Audience

Dr. Carrie Beam will provide a broad overview of the field of analytics as it applies to the general business world. First, she will outline the analytics maturity roadmap, and how to benchmark different companies’ analytics maturity levels. Next, this talk will provide a basic overview of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, and how to determine which technique is best suited for each situation. Case studies on market segmentation, direct marketing, forecasting under uncertainty, and valuation will be provided. Participants will come away with an understanding of analytics techniques and their application to the business world.

  • Understand descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
  • Learn how to recognize when to implement the different types of analytics in the business world


Dr. Carrie Beam brings more than 20 years of experience to data analytics projects, combining deep analytics knowledge, practical project management, and clear communication skills.

Dr. Beam is active in the field of data science through her consulting work, graduate-level teaching, speaking engagements, and articles published in academic and business journals. She served as the Chair of the 2021 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science, the “Super Bowl” of Analytics competitions, which carries a cash award of $10,000 and has recognized more than $300 billion in benefits among finalists since its inception in 1971. She is also a member of ProVisors and INFORMS.

She earned a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.S.E. in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University.
